My birthday present to myself

Today I turn 27.

So I decided to finally buy brandycrawford.com.

That's right. Take that "blogspot" away and that blogofbrandy nonsense. From now on it's brandycrawford.com--possibly the best domain name ever. I'm so glad that one of the many other Brandy Crawfords didn't snatch it up while I was thinking it over all these years.

I had to enter in a lot of information and I kind of feel like now Google can really keep tabs on me. But it is kind of cool to know that brandycrawford.com is all mine.

Bravo is SO accepting!

Please note the "For Our Gay Fans" section.

PS: My birthday comes in half an hour.

Damn it. I'm Ramona

I just took the Real Housewives quiz on Bravo's website (Never ask why, I am NOT a marketer's dream!). And in a cruel twist of fate the housewife I most identify with is Crazy Eyes Ramona.

I was REALLY hoping to be Luann but I would have died and demanded a recount if I'd been most like Alex.

Find out who you are here.

My new favorite.

So I just discovered the Papaya Dance Craze and I'm FREAKING OUT because it's SO AWESOME.

Please promise me you will learn it.

You should really youtube more--I've been watching different people get insane with it for almost half an hour now and I'm not sick off it.

Also best quote of my night so far is

"Ahhhh. The ever-lost art of analyzing emoticons."

This is a great op-ed piece

I just moved into a new office and I'm the only person in here for a few days. Having my own office suite with a huge window right by my desk is awesome. It's kind of like I came to school and there are no teachers. One of my dreams as a second grader was to get locked in school overnight so that I could write on the chalkboard.

Also, my 27th birthday is a week away. And I've come to terms with it. I still have 3 years til 30.

I need to rant

"Barack knows what it means, living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger!”

--Reverend Jeremiah Wright of the Trinity United Church of Christ

In case you live under a rock or don't follow politics, Barack Obama's minister is making headlines with some comments he made. Read up on it here.

I have something to say about all this. I don't usually get heated in discussions on politics but I think that the people are blowing this out of proportion and I just need to say my piece. I reprinted on of Rev. Wright's comments above. The others centered on the US getting what it had coming with the 9/11 attacks. But about this first quote:

THIS IS TRUE. There are like 3 black elected officials in high offices in America right now. Since Reconstruction there have only been 4 instances of a black person serving as governor of a US State and 2 of those are recent--as of 2006 (Deval Patrick-governor of Massachusetts) and as of 2008 (NY's very own David Paterson). So just thinking about the big wig elected positions--There are 50 states--each with one governor and 2 senators. That makes 150 tres important offices that a black person could possibly run for and be elected into. And currently there are 3 out of 150. Rich white men control America. In fact America put one of its richest white men in office and he has been fucking us over for 8 years.

AND YES--Hillary Clinton doesn't know SHIT about being black in America and if she wants to play the election like this she can count out the black vote. She has never been called a nigger to her face. When she has she can come to me and we can talk.

Also I might add that the sermon they pulled the anti-America remarks from was from September 16th 2001. Didn't the towers fall 5 days before? Are we really going back to a speech THAT OLD and not seeing it in context?? America had just endured a national tragedy--emotions were running high. I don't blame Rev. Wright for his comments and I totally see his point. I think its petty and, well I think LAME is a good word choice for the people who decided to make waves about this.

This race should not be about black and white. It should be about the issues. All Hillary Clinton and her people do is bash. If she's the best candidate she should be able to stick to her platform and her issues and do the damn thing. NOT have her lackeys find 5 year old information that will only serve to alienate her from black voters.

Obama's speech this morning is just more proof to me that he's the man I want in the White House. And if it's the black vote that will get him there I'm okay with that. Because wouldn't it be the white Democrats putting Hillary there? But it's only a racial matter when someone involved is black. That's such bullshit and makes me sad to be an American. Gas prices are sky high. People don't have health insurance. There's still a war in Iraq. America is entering a recession as I type.

Who gives a FUCK what a minister said to his congregation in 2001? The Democrats couldn't wait to see the end of Bill Clinton and now more are going towards Hillary because there's a strong chance a black man could beat her for the nom and ultimately win the presidency. This does not sit well with the rich white men in charge and now they are bringing out the big guns with stupid inane bullshit like Rev. Wrights comments. They don't want a woman in the White House but at least she's white, right? Before I was behind Obama because I thought he was the best person--I could have given a damn that he was black.

But before anything else, I am a Black American. Yes I'm a woman, but before that I am Black.

And yes--I want to see a fellow Black American in the White House.

Did you know....

That the Iraq war started 5 years ago today.

I was on spring break in Las Vegas and was enjoying mai tais with my friends Stacy and Casie at a bar in the Palms. CNN was on all the TVs and I remember thinking, "War? What-ever. I-where?" This was a time in my life when I didn't really give a shit about American foreign policy.

I got a kidney infection while on the trip so that's what I remember most. I threw up in the canal of the Venetian. I threw up in many bathrooms on the strip. I threw up all over our suite at the Rio. All from an allergic reaction to the medication I got for my sickness.

It kind of sucked but we rented a convertible and drove to LA and that was awesome.

Also--did you know that Scrabulous now has an "Adults Only" option?

I think that if you are trying to pick up a mate during a game of online Scrabble......

I'll let you finish the thought.

Do you like "panties"

Don't you love how I don't post for days and days and then it's like WHOA FIVE THINGS IN ONE DAY???

I'm awesome like that.

I'm in the middle of a semi-stressful work day and I'm taking a moment to chill the fuck out and I was chatting with my bf on g-chat. Not sure how we ended up talking about panties but...

This one time I was so jealous

My friend Danny got to go to a Kenny G concert in middle school one year for his birthday. I think my other friend Donovan went with him to the show.

I was INCREDIBLY jealous. I still love Kenny G.

To give you an idea of my musical tastes circa 91-93ish here is a list of my first few CDs. My mom joined Columbia house towards the end of 6th grade and let my brother and I go a little nuts.

  1. Counting Crows "August and Everything After" FAV SONG-Anna Begins
  2. Ace of Base "The Sign" FAV SONG-Voulez-Vous Danser
  3. Kenny G "Breathless" FAV SONG-The Wedding Song
  4. Jurassic Park soundtrack FAV SONG-A Tree for My Bed
  5. every soundtrack from every Disney movie from The Little Mermaid well past Pocahontas and Hercules (sidenote: it was also very important for me to know every word to every song and goddamn the internet for not being around--I could have just looked that shit up online but no--I sat at my tape player and wrote the lyrics out while playing and pausing)
  6. A Chipmunk Christmas
  7. Melissa Etheridge Yes I Am (sidenote: had no idea she was a lesbian until about 5 years AFTER I discovered her after watching the video for Come To My Window) and FAV SONG-I Will Never Be The Same-yes the song has new meaning now.
So much work today. I shouldn't be blogging!! But I can't stop myself.

The show went GREAT

Thanks so much to everyone who came out last night!!!

I actually VIDEOTAPED IT so I'll be posting it soon along with my actual professional looking taping of my set from last year. Being on stage again felt really good and I realized that I really missed performing. I did some new stuff but also some old stuff--Kailyn is my inspiration and I just can't NOT talk about her.

In other news, Kailyn in about to get another sister come July so hopefully little Madison will give me even more material.

I would LOVE to write more but SOMEONE was half an hour late to work and needs to GET ON IT.

But I will leave you with this: If you didn't see Amy Poehler do Christian from Project Runway on SNL this weekend, you missed an AMAZING performance. She does Christian better than CHRISTIAN does Christian. SO FIERCE. (And tranny. But cute tranny)

Coming out of retirement

Hey remember how I used to do standup?

Well it's been over a year and I hadn't really come to a definitive position on how I felt about the whole comedy thing. I thought that maybe stand-up wasn't my thing and I wasn't ready to really devote myself to it. But last week I got an email from a friend asking if I wanted to do some time on his show.

I replied yes right away. Then I freaked out and almost emailed back and bailed. Butthen I took a deep breath and remembered that stand-up really is fun and I love being on stage and making people laugh. So I should give it a try again and see how it makes me feel. So I am. I've got a whole new set and I'm excited to try it out.

So if you're in New York City Monday March 10th at 8pm you should come over to Fat Baby on the Lower East Side.

Looks like a fun time right?

Look what I found on Youtube!

I'm in a video.

The day the last Harry Potter came out I was walking to KMart to buy a copy when I got a call saying I could get money for helping out with a video a friend was doing. So I took a cab to Brooklyn and today I'm on Youtube. It's towards the end. Enjoy :)

Props to the filmmaker, Mr. Victor Varnado.
