"Barack knows what it means, living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger!”
--Reverend Jeremiah Wright of the Trinity United Church of Christ
In case you live under a rock or don't follow politics, Barack Obama's minister is making headlines with some comments he made. Read up on it
here.
I have something to say about all this. I don't usually get heated in discussions on politics but I think that the people are blowing this out of proportion and I just need to say my piece. I reprinted on of Rev. Wright's comments above. The others centered on the US getting what it had coming with the 9/11 attacks. But about this first quote:
THIS IS TRUE. There are like 3 black elected officials in high offices in America right now. Since Reconstruction there have only been 4 instances of a black person serving as governor of a US State and 2 of those are recent--as of 2006 (Deval Patrick-governor of Massachusetts) and as of 2008 (NY's very own David Paterson). So just thinking about the big wig elected positions--There are 50 states--each with one governor and 2 senators. That makes 150 tres important offices that a black person could possibly run for and be elected into. And currently there are 3 out of 150. Rich white men control America. In fact America put one of its richest white men in office and he has been fucking us over for 8 years.
AND YES--Hillary Clinton doesn't know SHIT about being black in America and if she wants to play the election like this she can count out the black vote. She has never been called a nigger to her face. When she has she can come to me and we can talk.
Also I might add that the sermon they pulled the anti-America remarks from was from September 16th 2001. Didn't the towers fall 5 days before? Are we really going back to a speech THAT OLD and not seeing it in context?? America had just endured a national tragedy--emotions were running high. I don't blame Rev. Wright for his comments and I totally see his point. I think its petty and, well I think LAME is a good word choice for the people who decided to make waves about this.
This race should not be about black and white. It should be about the issues. All Hillary Clinton and her people do is bash. If she's the best candidate she should be able to stick to her platform and her issues and do the damn thing. NOT have her lackeys find 5 year old information that will only serve to alienate her from black voters.
Obama's speech this morning is just more proof to me that he's the man I want in the White House. And if it's the black vote that will get him there I'm okay with that. Because wouldn't it be the white Democrats putting Hillary there? But it's only a racial matter when someone involved is black. That's such bullshit and makes me sad to be an American. Gas prices are sky high. People don't have health insurance. There's still a war in Iraq. America is entering a recession as I type.
Who gives a FUCK what a minister said to his congregation in 2001? The Democrats couldn't wait to see the end of Bill Clinton and now more are going towards Hillary because there's a strong chance a black man could beat her for the nom and ultimately win the presidency. This does not sit well with the rich white men in charge and now they are bringing out the big guns with stupid inane bullshit like Rev. Wrights comments. They don't want a woman in the White House but at least she's white, right? Before I was behind Obama because I thought he was the best person--I could have given a damn that he was black.
But before anything else, I am a Black American. Yes I'm a woman, but before that I am Black.
And yes--I want to see a fellow Black American in the White House.
