NO MORE SCRABULOUS

Dear Hasbro,

How could you do this to me? Do you know how much I need to be able to click on Scrabulous when I am feeling stressed out and insane at work? I NEED to have it there when I can't deal with the minutiae of another episode of another home makeover show. What is the purpose of me even BEING on facebook now?

Oh Hasbro. You couldn't just let us have our fun.

Thanks for nothing.

I hate you and your corporate ideals,

Brandy Crawford

I know, I know....

I never post anymore!!

This is what happens when there's too much on my plate at work. But I'm clearing that plate off slowly but surely--I have a couple of shows coming up in August and my first video is almost finished (I know I've been saying that for a MINUTE but I mean it this time.)

So I'm going to Georgia for a few days and I'll be starting August off the right way when I get back--with a hilarious recap of the family reunion I'm scheduled to attend this Saturday.

Don't give up on my blog--keep checking it and you'll be rewarded soon.

I'm from country-ass rural Georgia bitches.

And sometimes even stories like this make me homesick for my redneck brethren.

Make sure to scroll down and take a look at the slideshow. It's quite possibly the best slideshow you'll see today and it really captures a certain slice of rural Americana that we usually only get to see in cable documentaries about moonshine makers.

UPDATE:: There's a youtube video now!!

My Best Friend

Last night I talked to my cousin Kari on the phone for a while. Kari is the one person my age who I have actually known my whole life. She was born 3 weeks before me and I can't imagine my life without her. We are total opposites--she's light, I'm dark; she never went to class, I loved school a little too unnaturally; and now she has 3 kids and I am just now getting to a place where I can take care of just me. But she knows me inside and out and our differences really only bring us closer together. She also brought Kailyn Newton into the world and everyone knows that Kailyn is my heart.

Well, we were talking last night and she was telling me about a conversation she'd had with Kailyn and our cousin Jessica. Here's my re-enactment of their convo.

To set the scene for you--they are all sitting on Kari's bed with the new baby Madisyn.

Jessica: Kari I think that I want you to make Madisyn call me Aunty Jessica. Kailyn and Amme call Chasity, Aunty Chasity. [Chasity is Jessica's older sister] I'm grown now you know, [she's 20] so I think I need that respect too."

Kari: Well, they don't call Bran, Aunty Brandy.

Kailyn: But Momma, Brandy is not my aunty. Bran is my best friend.

Well folks, I melted with that comment and I'm almost crying just thinking about it. I'm going home at the end of July to everyone and it's not soon enough. So for your viewing pleasure--here's my best friend and her new baby sister.

My 4th

I spent the my entire 3-day weekend on my couch watching TV.

It was wonderful. I had complete control of the remote and no one to compromise with. Originally, I had a complete agenda for this weekend which included actually working on things like writing and comedy. But then I realized that I can work on things anytime--but having the apartment to myself for a long weekend--who knows when that amazing opportunity will come around again?

So put on my housedress and I settled into my new couch and I have been watching TV since I got home from work on Thursday. It feels kind of like summers used to feel in middle school--long and lazy.

I've learned a lot from TV in the past few days, the most important thing being that: Law and Order is always on.

You know what?

I LOVE LAW AND ORDER. I should take a moment to be more specific and say that I love SVU and Criminal Intent. My brother is obsessed with the original but I haven't really gotten into yet. Some people hate and I wasn't trying to turn this into a post about Law and Order but this post is about my 4th and I spent a significant portion of my 3-day weekend solving crimes with detectives Stabler, Benson, Eames and Goren. And I'm usually ALWAYS guessing til the end.

But anyway--between Bravo, USA, My9 and this weird NY channel 55, I can see SVU or Criminal Intent anytime I want--it's like Seinfeld and Family Guy. It's like those TV bigwigs want to keep me planted on my couch.

At my show last week there was a joke about how watching Law and Order could make a person never want to walk outside in New York for fear of being murdered. The funny thing is that on the way to that show my friend Casie and I discovered this random totally forest-y part of Central Park that was really beautiful and quiet and you couldn't see any buildings and almost at once I think both of us were like, "This is straight out of SVU," and I was sure a rapist was hiding just beyond the way.

And also because these show get their stories "straight from the headlines" it makes me even MORE paranoid now because what I'm watching did kind of happen. I also hope that I never witness a crime because I never want to be interrogated.

I love TV so much. I can't believe I lived without cable for so long. And I'm such a wasteful American that even if I'm not watching TV (like right now), it's on. I like the sound in the back ok?

Speaking of being a wasteful American--go see Wall-E, it's REALLY GREAT and has such a great message (even though I still haven't turned the TV I'm not watching off). Pixar is just the best.

What a GREAT show last night

Last night's show was SO FUN.

I'll admit, when I arrived and realized the place was a youth hostel and only 3 people were present, I was a little apprehensive. And the fact that the show was called "The Comedy Dungeon" was a little freaky. But then it started and the place began to fill up and I had SO MUCH FUN.

There was no microphone or stage--just a bunch of chairs surrounding a little open area. And I've never felt so comfortable in front of an audience before. For the first time since I started doing comedy, I didn't prepare at all ahead of time--I just started talking and went where my talking led me. And it felt GREAT. There six or so other comedians and everyone did a great job I thought. And the audience--if you are a comic and you want to perform in front of the nicest and most encouraging crowd of strangers ever, get yourself a spot on this show. It's every Monday night and definitely worth the trip to 106th and Central Park West.

So I'm feeling pretty great about life in general today--it's a short week, it's summer, and there will be fireworks on Friday.

PS: If you live in NYC, you should make a point of checking out the Waterfalls project. It's these 4 man-made waterfalls that are placed at different locations along the East River in lower Manhattan. The best place to see them is down by the Brooklyn Bridge next to the South Street Seaport. And make sure to go at night because then it looks like the waterfalls are just coming out of thin air and it's AWESOME.
